Wrap Party...Cable Commercial Update

Regina</a></a>[info]hd_amazon  and I held the wrap party last week to celebrate the completion of principal photography for my new movie "That's Just Wrong!" and also the 30-second commercial spot for my DVDs which will be running late at night on cable in several cities soon. Many of the cast & crew members showed up, including Little Sebastien</a></a>[info]littlesebastien  who brought Brody</a></a>[info]broddhisatva  with her; Dolores French; Nancy Collins</a></a>[info]heart8  brought Scrapple the Boston Terrier, Jeff</a></a>[info]syntherzukal  and Laura Morris</a></a>[info]cultessalura; Tonya Fowler</a></a>[info]bonnie_bara  who drove down from South Carolina with Richie</a></a>[info]saint_ama ; Herb Henderson</a></a>[info]dept13  from Dept 13 Films, along with numerous other friends and associates. Underground comix guru Skip Williamson arrived with a friend, followed by Gary Hasty</a></a>[info]revhasty  of WeirdAssShit.com, filmmaker Tom Chadouin, and later Jonathan Williams of Prick Magazine and Access Atlanta brought his wife. Before the night was over, Aria</a></a>[info]blissful_kaos  showed up with her friend Craig. I'd made a huge crockpot of chili, and of course there was plenty of other food and booze, etc. A good time was had by all...at least I'm pretty certain of that.

Meanwhile, my 30-second commercial spot was rejected as "offensive" by the Atlanta Comcast standards office...so, a slightly revised version will start first in NYC on March 8th, followed by a week in Los Angeles, then the new version will be re-submitted locally through an agency.

Here are the 2 versions:

The "OFFENSIVE" ORIGINAL VERSION

The "NON-OFFENSIVE" REVISED VERSION

You be the judge...

Well, I'm not really one of those people who goes around being offended, but I can see how the revised version can be seen as "less offensive" as it doesn't have the whole licking the blood thing. But I fail to see how any town that shows Fear Factor would be offended by either ad.

And that's My Two Cents.

The sales guy said that his bosses told him it was offensive in "many" ways...plus they couldn't reach my website through the filters in their office. Go figure. I'd thought perhaps just taking out the bloody hand frames would be enough, but we had to remove the website, the movie titles, the DVD titles, 3 half-second clips and the one-second bloody hand clip. After the NYC and LA runs, we'll try Atlanta again, followed by Chicago, Dallas and a couple of other "large" cities.

I don't think it's a matter of actual offensiveness as much as trying to pre-empt the sort of people who freak out about such things. I think a lot more things are edited because of the fear of offending someone rather than actual people expressing outrage. I mean, look at FOX. They were all over Family Guy about "offensive" material while airing other shows that should offend anyone with taste.
